Carpenter and plane
Jan Vincker is a creator who tells stories with wood. His work not only decorates a room, but also gives it a clear character. This small statuette at the plane embodies dedication to the craft and honest manual work. It evokes feelings and questions that the master carpenter who ordered the figure with the plane and plane does not have to explain in detail. When friends come over and ask: Why do you have this here? The proud carpenter can simply answer: I love this work so much that I had to have it carved.

Realistic figural carving.
Figures, portraits, animals and abstractions.
My work is not decoration, but a craft with expression – from precise facial detail to monumental pieces.
I carry out individual orders for those who require superior workmanship and an uncompromising approach to the material.

History, present and context
Christmas markets in Olomouc
Christmas markets in Olomouc, although currently enjoying the reputation of one of the most beautiful and traditional Advent events in the Czech Republic, represent a complex phenomenon, which is rather the result of the late Renaissance and re-traditionalization and interruption of historical continuity. Medieval roots: Olomouc is culturally connected to macrohistorical Central European traditions. The first documented December markets, which served as predecessors of today's fairs, appeared already in the Middle Ages. Examples include the Vienna Krippenmarkt from 1298 and the first Christkindlmarkt in Bautzen from 1384.2 Olomouc refers to this common cultural sphere, especially with regard to the modern effort to approach the atmosphere of Western European cities.3 Historical Discontinuity (19th and much of the 20th century) The key point is that in the 19th century and for much of the 20th century, Christmas markets in their current social and public form did not exist on the Upper Square. Christmas was then primarily a strictly family and church affair. The only post-war public tradition that took hold on the square was the charitable lighting of the Christmas tree from 1945. The current Modern Renaissance of the Last 20 Years The current model is a product of the commercial and cultural revival of the early 21st century. After initial criticism of the "market character", there was a significant cultivation and expansion, for the first time in history also on the Lower Square. Olomouc markets today are strongly profiled by the punch culture punch trail and the integration of modern attractions into the historic center ice rink, observation wheel.

The Nativity scene decorates the lower square
Don't miss the nativity scene on Dolní náměstí. For more than ten years, the large wooden nativity scene has been decorating Christmas markets. It consists of fifteen life-size figures carved from black poplar. The tallest figures, including one of the Three Kings, reach a height of almost two meters. Over the years, the nativity scene has been gradually supplemented with new elements, such as the figure of a dog and an angel, and is now complete. In 2022, the nativity scene underwent renovation, during which cracks were repaired and new paint was applied, which ensures its beauty. So come and see it. Just a short distance away, Jan Vincker has his stand. Come visit him.

September 2025
The production of Christmas figures by Jan Vincker from Teplice nad Bečvou is in full swing. A new journeyman has joined Jan and they are working on the preparations together.
All the figures that are carved always correspond to a theme. It always surprises me when I hear from a customer what I have carved for them on order and they want to add something new to the nativity scene that will fit into their composition. For example, a little lower down there is a completely new offer, like every year, so take a look.

Nativity scene on loan to the city of Olomouc
He has lived and created in this place for many years. 13 years ago he created a beautiful life-size nativity scene, which is exhibited annually at the Christmas markets. On the lower square by the Marian Column, a little to the side, you will also find Jan Vincker's stand with his unique nativity scene figures.

Jan carves statues
Life-size statues
I have created eight unique nativity scenes, spread across the country, one of which is permanently loaned to the city of Olomouc. I think it perfectly complements the atmosphere of the Olomouc Christmas markets.
Furthermore, I created many faithful works..
